IMIPI is led by its medical director Dr. Christopher P. Hollowell, M.D., FA.C.S. He has spent his entire career developing and mastering minimally invasive prostatic techniques. Minimally invasive BPH technology was born out of a desire to be an alternative to invasive surgeries and promote quicker recovery, reduce side effects, and improve a patient’s overall experience.

Christopher P. Hollowell, MD, FACS / IMIPI Medical Director

In the early 1990’s, while as a resident at the University of Miami, Dr. Hollowell was exposed to this burgeoning field. He was one of the first physicians in the United States to clinically use radiofrequency and microwave therapies for BPH. He participated in the Indigo interstitial laser FDA trials. He helped the engineers at Medtronic with the redesigning of TUNA to its current form Prostiva.

As a thought leader in the field, he has collaborated with multiple companies to design, improve, and expand their technologies.

Dr. Hollowell attended the prestigious University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. He completed his undergraduate and medical school studies at Wayne State University in his hometown of Detroit. During medical school, he was awarded clinical externships at the Betty Ford Clinic in Palm Springs and with Dr. Benjamin Carson in pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He went on to do his general surgery and urology residency training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospitals.

After residency, he returned to Detroit to join his father in urological practice for 12 years.  “My father has always been my guiding light,” says Dr. Hollowell. “He is the master of the art of medicine and bedside manner. His compassion and unique ability to communicate with people transcends the typical role of a physician.”

It is this elevated standard that Dr.Hollowell strives for in his practice today.

Dr. Hollowell is currently a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Florida Atlantic and Nova Southeastern Universities and formally the clinical assistant professor of surgery and gynecology at Wayne State and Michigan State Universities.

Dr. Hollowell is married to his lovely wife Cathy, who is a Nurse Practitioner in allergy/immunology. They cherish spending time with their two children, family, and friends.

We are a global leader of excellence because of our unparalleled experience.
